The Sri Lankan hockey team qualified for the Asian Games !!
The fourth match of qualifiers between Sri Lanka and Thailand was played against Hong Kong in Thailand to select the teams for the 19th Asian Games qualifiers.
The match against Hong Kong was a challenging and decisive one for Sri Lanka, having lost two of the previous three matches in the series. Victory or defeat will determine whether the Sri Lankan team qualifies for the 19th Asian Games to be held in China.
However, the Sri Lankan hockey team won the match against Hong Kong 5-2.
Vipul Varnakula was selected as the man of the match against the Hong Kong match. This is the second time he has been named Man of the Match for this qualifier tournament.
So far, six out of nine countries that have been qualified from the qualification round for the 2023 Asian Games to be held in China. They are Bangladesh, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Oman and Uzbekistan.

19වෙනි ආසියානු ක්රීඩා උළෙලට සුදුස්සන් තේරීම සඳහා තායිලන්තයේදී පැවැත්වෙන තරගාවලියේ ශ්රී ලංකාව මුහුණ දුන් සිව්වන තරගය ඊයේ පැවැත්විණි. ඒ හොංකොං රාජ්යට එරෙහිව ය.
තරගාවලිය තුළ මීට පෙර මුහුණ දුන් තරග තුනෙන් දෙකක් ම පරාජයට පත්ව සිටි ශ්රී ලංකා පිලට හොංකොං රාජ්ය සමග පැවැත් වුණු තරගය අභියෝගාත්මක මෙන් ම තීරණාත්මක තරගයක් විය. මන්ද මෙම තරගයේ ජය පරාජය මත ශ්රී ලංකා පිල චීනයේදී පැවැත්වීමට නියමිත 19වෙනි ආසියානු ක්රීඩා උළෙලට සුදුසුකම් ලබනවාද නැද්ද යන්න තීරණය වන බැවිනි.
කෙසේවෙතත් ශ්රී ලංකා හොකී පිල හොංකොං රාජ්යට එරෙහිව සාර්ථක වූයේ ගෝල 5-2ක් වශයෙන් තරගය ජය ගැනීමට සමත් වෙමින් ය.
හොංකොං රාජ්යත් සමග පැවැති මෙම තරගයේ වීරයා බවට පත් වූයේ විපුල් වර්ණකුලයි. සුදුස්සන් තේරීමේ තරගාවලිය තුළ විපුල් තරගයේ වීරයා බවට පත් වූ දෙවැනි අවස්ථාව මෙය වීම ද විශේෂත්වයකි.
ඊයේ ලැබු ජයග්රහණයත් සමග ශ්රී ලංකා හොකී පිලට ආසියානු ක්රීඩා උළෙලට සුදුසුකම් ලැබීමට අවස්ථාව හිමි විය.
මේ වන විට සුදුස්සන් තේරීමේ තරගාවලියට සහභාගි වූ රටවල් 9 අතුරින් රටවල් 6ක් 2023දී චීනයේදී පැවැත්වීමට නියමිත ආසියානු ක්රීඩා උළෙලට සුදුසුකම් ලබා අවසන් ය. බංග්ලාදේශය, ඉන්දුනීසියාව, ශ්රී ලංකාව, තායිලන්තය, ඕමානය සහ උස්බෙකිස්තානය එම රටවල් හයයි.

19ஆவது ஆசிய விளையாட்டுப் போட்டிக்கான அணிகளை தெரிவு செய்வதற்காக தகுதிச் சுற்றின் நான்காவது போட்டி இலங்கை மற்றும் தாய்லாந்து அணிகளுக்கு இடையிலான போட்டி ஹாங்காங்கில் நடைபெற்றது.
ஹொங்கொங்கிற்கு எதிரான போட்டி இலங்கைக்கு சவாலான மற்றும் தீர்க்கமான போட்டியாக அமைந்தது, போட்டித் தொடரில் இதற்கு முன்னர் விளையாடிய மூன்று போட்டிகளில் இரண்டில் இலங்கை தோல்வியடைந்திருந்தது. சீனாவில் நடைபெறவுள்ள 19வது ஆசிய விளையாட்டுப் போட்டிக்கு இலங்கை அணி தகுதி பெறுமா இல்லையா என்பதை இப்போட்டியில் வெற்றி தோல்வி தீர்மானிக்கும்.
எனினும் ஹொங்கொங்கிற்கு எதிரான போட்டியில் இலங்கை ஹொக்கி அணி 5-2 என்ற கோல் கணக்கில் வெற்றி பெற்றது.
ஹாங்காங் அணிக்கு எதிரான ஆட்ட நாயகனாக விபுல் வர்ணகுல தேர்வு செய்யப்பட்டார். தகுதிச் சுற்றுப் போட்டியின் ஆட்ட நாயகனாக அவர் தெரிவானது இது இரண்டாவது முறையாகும்.
இதுவரை, தகுதி சுற்று போட்டிக்கு தகுதி பெற்ற ஒன்பது நாடுகளில் ஆறு நாடுகள், 2023ஆம் ஆண்டு சீனாவில் நடைபெறவுள்ள ஆசிய விளையாட்டுப் போட்டிக்கு தகுதி பெற்றுள்ளன. அவை பங்களாதேஷ், இந்தோனேசியா, இலங்கை, தாய்லாந்து, ஓமன் மற்றும் உஸ்பெகிஸ்தான் ஆகிய ஆறு நாடுகள் ஆகும்.

Sunil Kumara Gamage Accepts SLC Resignations, Ministry Steps In
Sri Lanka’s cricket administration has entered a period of transition after the government stepped in to take temporary control of the sport’s governing body.
Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage has accepted the resignation of Shammi Silva and the Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket, marking a significant shift in leadership.
Following the resignations, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports announced that it would assume oversight of cricket administration under the authority granted by the Sports Law No. 25 of 1973. The decision places all operational and administrative matters of SLC under ministerial supervision with immediate effect.
Authorities indicated that the arrangement is temporary and part of a broader effort to stabilise the sport’s administration. A new committee is expected to be appointed in the coming days to examine existing issues and propose structural reforms aimed at improving governance and accountability.
The leadership’s decision to step down was communicated to the government earlier, prompting swift action to ensure continuity in the management of Sri Lanka’s most prominent sport.

SLC President Shammi Silva and Executive Committee Step Down Effective Today
The President of Sri Lanka Cricket, Shammi Silva, has officially resigned from his position with immediate effect, according to an announcement released by the board today (29).
In a significant development, all office-bearers and members of the Executive Committee have also stepped down from their respective roles, signaling a complete leadership transition within the governing body.

Sri Lanka Cricket confirmed that the decision has been formally conveyed to Anura Kumara Dissanayake and the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Sunil Kumara Gamage.
No further details were immediately provided regarding the reasons behind the mass resignation or the process for appointing new leadership.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) today provided a financial grant to rising javelin thrower Rumesh
Tharanga Pathirage.
This support was extended under the direction of the SLC President Mr. Shammi Silva and
the Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket, following a request made by the Minister of
Youth Affairs and Sports, Sunil Kumara Gamage.
Rumesh Tharanga received the grant this evening at the SLC headquarters.
This initiative is part of SLC’s ongoing efforts to support and promote sports beyond cricket,
as well as to assist promising athletes in achieving success at the international level.
