Charith Asalanka led Sri Lanka Squad annouced

Charith Asalanka is set to lead Sri Lanka in the upcoming three-match T20I series against India, commencing on July 27. He will be taking over the captaincy from all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga, who stepped down from the role after the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Following a disappointing performance at the T20 World Cup, former champions Sri Lanka are looking for a fresh start, resulting in the exclusion of experienced players such as Angelo Mathews and Dhananjaya de Silva from the squad. On the other hand, Chamindu Wickramasinghe, Binura Fernando, and Avishka Fernando have been included in the team to face the world champions, India.

In the midst of these changes, Indian cricket is also undergoing a transition, with captain Rohit Sharma and star batter Virat Kohli retiring from T20Is after India’s T20 World Cup victory. Additionally, this series marks the end of coach Rahul Dravid’s tenure with the Indian team.

Suryakumar Yadav will lead a young Indian team in the T20 series against Sri Lanka, while Gautam Gambhir has assumed the role of India’s head coach.
