Yupun placed fifth in the World Athletics Championships..

Sri Lankan athlete Yupun Abeykoon participated in the preliminary round of the 100 meters running event of the 18th World Athletics Championship held in Oregon, USA this morning. There he was able to get fifth (5) place in the competition. Finishing the race in 10.19 seconds.

American athlete Trayvon Bromell finished the race in 9.89 seconds and won first place in that race. Ivory Coast(CIV) athlete Arthur Cisse finished the race second and it took him 10.02 seconds. The third place in the race went to the Brazilian running champion Rodrigo Do Nascimento who finished the race in 10.11 seconds.

Considered to be the fastest runner in South Asia, Yupun holds the 100m South Asian record and he also has the honour of being the only South Asian athlete to finish the 100m race in less than 10 seconds. Yupunt has also set a new Asian record in the 150m event. In addition, Yupun has won many international racing competitions.

තත්පර 9.89කින් තරගය නිමා කළ ඇමෙරිකානු ක්‍රීඩක Trayvon Bromell එම තරගයේ ප්‍රථම ස්ථානය හිමි කර ගැනීමට සමත් වී තිබේ. Ivory Coast(CIV) ක්‍රීඩක Arthur Cisse තරගය දෙවනියට අවසන් කර ඇති අතර ඔහුට ඒ සඳහා තත්පර 10.02ක කාලයක් ගත වී තිබේ. තරගයේ තෙවන ස්ථානය තරගය තත්පර 10.11කින් අවසන් කළ බ්‍රසීල ධාවන ශුර Rodrigo Do Nascimento ට හිමි විය.

දකුණු ආසියාවේ වේගවත් ම ධාවන ක්‍රීඩකයා සේ සැලකෙන යුපුන් මීටර් 100 දකුණු ආසියානු වාර්තාවට හිමිකම් කියන අතර තත්පර 10ට අඩු කාලයක් තුළ මීටර් 100 ධාවන ඉසව්ව අවසන් කළ එක ම දකුණු ආසියානු ක්‍රීඩකයා යන ගෞරවය ද ඔහු සතු ය. මීටර් 150 ඉසව්වෙන් ද නව ආසියානු වාර්තාවක් යුපුන්ට විසින් පිහිටුවා තිබේ. මීට අමතරව යුපුන් ජාත්‍යන්තර ධාවන තරගාවලි රැසකදී ම ජයග්‍රහණයන් අත්කර ගෙන තිබේ.

அமெரிக்காவின் ஓரிகானில் இன்று காலை நடைபெற்ற 18வது உலக தடகள சம்பியன்ஷிப் போட்டியின் 100 மீற்றர் ஓட்டப் போட்டியின் ஆரம்ப சுற்றுப் போட்டியில் இலங்கை வீரர் யுபுன் அபேகோன் கலந்துகொண்டார். அங்கு அவர் போட்டியில் ஐந்தாவது (5) இடத்தைப் பெற முடிந்தது. பந்தயத்தை 10.19 வினாடிகளில் முடித்தார்.

இப்போட்டியில் அமெரிக்க வீரர் ட்ரேவோன் ப்ரோமெல் 9.89 வினாடிகளில் பந்தயத்தை முடித்து முதலிடம் பெற்றார். ஐவரி கோஸ்ட் (சிஐவி) தடகள வீரர் ஆர்தர் சிஸ்ஸே பந்தயத்தை இரண்டாவதாக முடித்தார், அது அவருக்கு 10.02 வினாடிகள் ஆனது. பந்தயத்தில் மூன்றாவது இடத்தை பிரேசிலின் ஓட்ட சாம்பியன் ரோட்ரிகோ டோ நாசிமென்டோ 10.11 வினாடிகளில் முடித்தார்.

தெற்காசியாவின் அதிவேக ஓட்டப்பந்தய வீரராகக் கருதப்படும் யுபுன் 100 மீ தெற்காசிய சாதனையைப் படைத்துள்ளார், மேலும் 100 மீ ஓட்டத்தை 10 வினாடிகளுக்குள் முடித்த ஒரே தெற்காசிய தடகள வீரர் என்ற பெருமையையும் பெற்றுள்ளார். 150 மீ ஓட்டத்தில் யுபுன்ட் புதிய ஆசிய சாதனையையும் படைத்துள்ளார். கூடுதலாக, யுபுன் பல சர்வதேச பந்தய போட்டிகளில் வென்றுள்ளார்.

Rumesh Extends European Dominance with Ostrava Gold

Sri Lanka’s rising athletics star Rumesh Tharanga Pathiragae reinforced his status as one of the world’s premier javelin throwers by capturing gold at the prestigious Ostrava Golden Spike meeting in the Czech Republic on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old delivered another commanding performance at the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold event, producing a winning throw of 86.57 metres to finish comfortably ahead of a high-quality international field.

Rumesh signaled his intentions from the outset with an opening effort of 85.87m before improving to 86.30m in the second round. He then produced his best throw of the day, 86.57m, in the third round, a mark that remained unbeaten for the rest of the competition.

Grenada’s double world champion Anderson Peters had to settle for second place with 84.27m, while South Africa’s Douw Smit completed the podium with a throw of 83.90m.

The latest triumph comes just weeks after Rumesh announced himself on the global stage with a sensational 92.62m effort in Rome, a throw that elevated him to eighth place on the all-time world rankings and established him as a genuine contender for major international honours.

Unlike in Rome, where he arrived as an emerging talent, Rumesh entered the Ostrava meet carrying the weight of expectation. Widely regarded as the athlete to beat in men’s javelin this season, the Sri Lankan was among the headline attractions of the competition and featured prominently in pre-event promotions.
