Yupun Abeykoon withdraws from World Athletics Championships to focus on Asian Games
Sri Lankan sprinting sensation Yupun Abeykoon announced that he will be withdrawing from the upcoming World Athletics Championships scheduled to be held in Budapest, Hungary in August.
Yupun, who is currently recovering from an injury which he picked during the Savona International Meet back in May, said, “My concentration is to give my best for the Asian Games in September 2023.
“Dear Media and all my beloved fans, these times have been tough during the past few months mentally and physically, as you all know that I have been going through a crucial injury period and the situation is slowly turning out on the positive side.
This decision has been critical to me as I had to choose between two races I have been waiting to compete in since the beginning of this year.
Therefore, I have informed the authorities and have decided to withdraw from the World Athletics Championships in Budapest. My concentration is to give my best for the Asian Games in September 2023.
Thank you all for your love and prayers for my recovery.
I’ll be back stronger!” Yupun said in a statement.
