The current Sports act amended
Due to the deficiencies in the current Sports Act, the Act has been amended. Mr Janadiphita has appointed a committee for these amendments, so Mr Malik Samaraweera has been appointed as the chairman of that committee. The revised new facts are as follows.
The main positions (Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer) of sports associations can be held only twice for two years each. This law will affect national associations, provincial associations, district associations and regional associations in the same way. According to the amendment, the maximum tenure is 4 years. If he has held the office of Chairman for two terms (04 years), he shall be disqualified for re-election to the office of Chairman. Nevertheless, it should not be a hindrance to hold committee membership for another four (04) years. Having held office for four (04) terms (a term of eight (08) years), shall be ineligible for re-election and shall also be ineligible for committee membership. However, this should not be a hindrance if the officers of any association are appointed at the time these orders come into force till the end of their tenure.
If for any reason an official or committee member has been removed, punished or suspended for disciplinary reasons by the International Association or its affiliates under a formal investigation under the Sports Act, such removal, punishment or suspension of A person who has been appointed shall be ineligible for re-election to that office or committee membership.
In the event that any member of the executive committee, including the chairman, secretary, or treasurer, acts contrary to the sports act, regulations, directives and the constitution of the said national sports association, the federation, a resolution carried by a voting member of the relevant association, the federation by a simple majority of the voting members by convening a special general assembly or In a council meeting, the association can be removed from office even before the completion of the relevant term by a 2/3 majority of the voting members of the federation.

In relation to players with special needs, the National Sports Association for Handicapped Players is responsible for including a subsidiary association consisting of people with special needs for the sports of the National Sports Association for their disabled players.
Athletes and other officials participating in sports representing Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka or abroad for any undisciplined behaviour or behaviour that brings Sri Lanka into disrepute or dereliction of responsibility by a formal investigation panel appointed by the Minister in charge of the Ministry of Records or the Director General. ක්රීඩා අධ්යක්ෂ ජනරාල්වරයා ඉහත සඳහන් සියළු ක්රීඩා සංගම්, සමාජ හා අනුබද්ධ ආයතන පිළිබඳ පූර්ණ අධීක්ෂණයක් සිදු කිරීම සඳහා වැඩපිළිවෙලක් සැකසිය යුතුය. ක්රීඩා අධ්යක්ෂ ජනරාල්වරයා විසින් දිස්ත්රික් ක්රීඩා සංගම් අධීක්ෂණය ඒ ඒ දිස්ත්රික්කයේ ක්රීඩා අධ්යක්ෂකවරයා මගින් සිදු කළ යුතුය.
ක්රීඩා අධ්යක්ෂ ජනරාල්වරයා විසින් පළාත් ක්රීඩා සංගම් අධීක්ෂණය ඒ ඒ පළාතේ ක්රීඩා අධ්යක්ෂකවරයා මගින් සිදු කළ යුතු අතර, එකී අධීක්ෂණ කටයුතු ජාතික ක්රීඩා ප්රතිපත්තියට අනුකූල වන සේ ඒ ඒ පළාත් සභාව විසින් ප්රඥප්ති මගින් හඳුන්වා දී ඇති විධි විධාන ප්රකාරව සිදු කළ යුතුය.

“This is not personal—it’s a wake-up call. Especially at the school level, if we build a proper system, we might finally see decent results,”

“No Future in Football” – A Harsh Reality
Hameed admitted that he now encourages players to focus on their education instead of football due to the lack of career prospects in the sport. He lamented that football has become an elite pastime hijacked by individuals with no understanding or passion for the game.
There’s no future in it right now—no careers, no livelihood,” he said. “Talent doesn’t matter anymore. Football is now controlled by politics and greed.
School Football in Crisis
His strongest words were reserved for the school football system, which he described as being in complete disarray.
Our school system is a disaster. There’s no coaching, no nurturing of talent, and no proper calendar. Finals are played under harsh conditions, without basic facilities like medical support or crowd control.
Comparing football to the glamor of school rugby and cricket, Hameed pointed out how football is marginalized despite having deep roots and mass appeal.

Look at the attention rugby and cricket get. Meanwhile, school football finals happen in near silence. It’s disrespectful.
A Broken Federation
Hameed criticized the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) for its failure in leadership and planning.
The wrong people are running the game. They have no playing background, no vision, no strategy — they’re in it for the titles and benefits.
Highlighting Zahira College’s legacy of producing nearly 100 national players, he said that even his alma mater may withdraw from tournaments due to poor planning and conditions.
