Sri Lanka wins several trophies in the Western Asian Youth Chess Championship…

The 5th West Asian Youth Chess Championship was held in the Maldives on the 15th. Organized by the Maldives Chess Federation, the tournament was attended by nine countries and the nine countries are Maldives, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

23 young athletes representing Sri Lanka participated in this tournament. Sri Lanka won one gold, five silver and 10 bronze medals in the 12 categories of speed, rhythm and high speed.

Susal de Silva of Nalanda College, Colombo won the only gold medal for Sri Lanka and is currently the National Chess Champion.

In addition, Chenal Goonetileke of Royal College, Colombo, Desandi Gamage of Sirimavo Bandaranaike College, Colombo and Hasandi Sethusma of Sujatha Balika Vidyalaya, Matara won silver medals.

B. Janukshan, Susal de Silva of Nalanda College, Colombo, Dinuwara Seneviratne of Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala and Dulinma Ratnayake of Vihara Maha Devi College, Kiribathgoda won bronze medals for Sri Lanka.

පස්වැනි බටහිර ආසියානු යොවුන් චෙස් තරගාවලිය ඉකුත් 15 වන දා සිට මාලදිවයින් රාජ්‍යයේ දී පැවැත්විණි. මාලදිවයින් චෙස් සම්මේලනය විසින් සංවිධානය කරන ලද මෙම තරගාවලියට රටවල් 9ක් සහභාගි විය. Maldives, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyztan, Uzbekistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan සහ Sri Lanka එම රටවල් නවය වේ.

මෙම තරගාවලිය සඳහා ශ්‍රී ලංකාව නියෝජනය කරමින් යොවුන් ක්‍රීඩක ක්‍රීඩිකාවෝ 23ක් සහභාගි වූහ. වේග, රිද්ම සහ අධිවේගී යනාදි කාණ්ඩ 12ක් යටතේ පැවැති මෙම තරගාවලියේ දී ශ්‍රී ලංකාවට රන් පදක්කමක්, රිදී පදක්කම් 5ක් සහ ලෝකඩ පදක්කම් 10ක් දිනා ගැනීමට හැකි විය.

එහිදි ශ්‍රී ලංකාවට හිමි වූ එක ම රන් පදක්කම දිනාගත්තේ කොළඹ නාලන්දා විද්‍යාලයේ සුසාල් ද සිල්වා වන අතර ඔහු වර්තමානයේ ජාතික චෙස් ශුරතාවයට ද හිමිකම් කියයි.

ඊට අමතරව කොළඹ රාජකීය විද්‍යාලයේ ශෙනාල් ගුණතිලක, කොළඹ සිරිමාවෝ බණ්ඩාරනායක විද්‍යාලයේ දෙසඳි ගමගේ සහ මාතර සුජාතා බාලිකා විද්‍යාලයේ හසඳි සෙතුස්මා රිදී පදක්කම් දිනා ගැනීමට සමත් වූහ.

B. ජනුක්ෂාන්, කොළඹ නාලන්දා විද්‍යාලයේ සුසාල් ද සිල්වා, කුරුණෑගල මලියදේව විද්‍යාලයේ දිනුවර සෙනෙවිරත්න සහ කිරිබත්ගොඩ විහාර මහාදේවි විද්‍යාලයේ දුලින්මා රත්නායක යන ක්‍රීඩක ක්‍රීඩිකාවන්ට මෙම තරගාවලියේදී ශ්‍රී ලංකාව වෙනුවෙන් ලෝකඩ පදක්කම් දිනා ගැනීමට හැකි විය.

5வது மேற்கு ஆசிய யூத் செஸ் சாம்பியன்ஷிப் போட்டி மாலத்தீவில் கடந்த 15ம் தேதி நடந்தது. மாலத்தீவு செஸ் கூட்டமைப்பினால் ஏற்பாடு செய்யப்பட்ட இந்த போட்டியில் ஒன்பது நாடுகள் கலந்து கொண்டதோடு, மாலத்தீவுகள், கஜகஸ்தான், கிர்கிஸ்தான், உஸ்பெகிஸ்தான், பங்களாதேஷ், இந்தியா, நேபாளம், பாகிஸ்தான் மற்றும் இலங்கை ஆகிய ஒன்பது நாடுகள் கலந்து கொண்டன.

இந்தப் போட்டியில் இலங்கையை பிரதிநிதித்துவப்படுத்தி 23 இளம் விளையாட்டு வீரர்கள் கலந்துகொண்டனர். வேகம், ரிதம், அதிவேகம் ஆகிய 12 பிரிவுகளில் இலங்கை ஒரு தங்கம், ஐந்து வெள்ளி மற்றும் 10 வெண்கலப் பதக்கங்களை வென்றது.

கொழும்பு நாலந்தா கல்லூரியைச் சேர்ந்த சுசல் டி சில்வா இலங்கைக்கான ஒரேயொரு தங்கப் பதக்கத்தை வென்று தற்போது தேசிய செஸ் சம்பியனாக உள்ளார்.

மேலும், கொழும்பு றோயல் கல்லூரியின் செனல் குணதிலக, கொழும்பு சிறிமாவோ பண்டாரநாயக்க கல்லூரியின் தேசாந்தி கமகே மற்றும் மாத்தறை சுஜாதா பாலிகா வித்தியாலயத்தைச் சேர்ந்த ஹசந்தி சேதுஸ்மா ஆகியோர் வெள்ளிப் பதக்கங்களை வென்றனர்.

பி.ஜனுக்ஷன், கொழும்பு நாலந்தா கல்லூரியின் சுசல் டி சில்வா, குருநாகல் மலியதேவ கல்லூரியின் தினுவர செனவிரத்ன மற்றும் கிரிபத்கொட விஹார மகாதேவி கல்லூரியின் துலின்மா ரத்நாயக்க ஆகியோர் இலங்கைக்காக வெண்கலப் பதக்கங்களை வென்றனர்.

Sri Lanka’s cricket administration has entered a period of transition after the government stepped in to take temporary control of the sport’s governing body.

Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage has accepted the resignation of Shammi Silva and the Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket, marking a significant shift in leadership.

Following the resignations, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports announced that it would assume oversight of cricket administration under the authority granted by the Sports Law No. 25 of 1973. The decision places all operational and administrative matters of SLC under ministerial supervision with immediate effect.

Authorities indicated that the arrangement is temporary and part of a broader effort to stabilise the sport’s administration. A new committee is expected to be appointed in the coming days to examine existing issues and propose structural reforms aimed at improving governance and accountability.

The leadership’s decision to step down was communicated to the government earlier, prompting swift action to ensure continuity in the management of Sri Lanka’s most prominent sport.

The President of Sri Lanka Cricket, Shammi Silva, has officially resigned from his position with immediate effect, according to an announcement released by the board today (29).

In a significant development, all office-bearers and members of the Executive Committee have also stepped down from their respective roles, signaling a complete leadership transition within the governing body.

Sri Lanka Cricket confirmed that the decision has been formally conveyed to Anura Kumara Dissanayake and the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Sunil Kumara Gamage.

Sri Lanka Cricket Grants Rs. 10 Million to Rising Javelin Athlete Rumesh Tharanga

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) today provided a financial grant to rising javelin thrower Rumesh
Tharanga Pathirage.

This support was extended under the direction of the SLC President Mr. Shammi Silva and
the Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket, following a request made by the Minister of
Youth Affairs and Sports, Sunil Kumara Gamage.

Rumesh Tharanga received the grant this evening at the SLC headquarters.
This initiative is part of SLC’s ongoing efforts to support and promote sports beyond cricket,
as well as to assist promising athletes in achieving success at the international level.
