India should not have Test vice-captaincy – Ravi Shastri
The post of vice-captain in India has become a hotly debated topic in recent times. Commenting, Ravi Shastri says, “I never want to be vice-captain for home tournaments.”
With the conclusion of the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the position of Indian vice-captain has been hotly debated. The post has been lying vacant since KL Rahul was sacked from the post and now it seems that a new person will be announced for the post.
While several opinions have already been floated regarding Rahul’s exit, a unique statement has been added by none other than former India coach Ravi Shastri.
According to Shastri, the Indian team should not have a vice-captain – at least for Tests at home. “The team management decides (the vice-captain). They know his (Rahul’s) form, they know his state of mind. They know how they should look at someone like Shubman Gill. I always believed that India would never appoint a vice-captain.
I prefer to go with the best XI if the captain has to leave the field because you don’t want to create complications, a player who can take over at that time will be used. ” Shastri said on the ICC Review podcast.
