Suryakumar Yadav has been named as the new captain of the Indian T20I team, surpassing Hardik Pandya, as announced by the BCCI for the upcoming Sri Lanka tour. Following Rohit Sharma’s retirement from the format, SKY will lead the team, having previously captained against Australia and South Africa in 2023.
Rohit and Virat Kohli will play in the ODI matches starting on 2 August, while Jasprit Bumrah will be rested. The T20 World Cup-winning captain, Rohit, retired from T20Is after securing India’s first ICC title in over a decade. Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja also retired from the format post the mega event. Gautam Gambhir will lead his first assignment as the new head coach of the Indian team, taking over from Rahul Dravid, who chose not to re-apply after his contract expired at the end of the T20 World Cup.
