Sri Lanka to be gain three points on Asian Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 Group H
The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has today confirmed the withdrawal of the DPR Korea Football Association from the Asian Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ and AFC Asian Cup China 2023™
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka faced DPR Korea on home soil on 10th September 2021 and lost the match by 1 – 0. The withdrawal of DPR Korea from the qualifiers will provide a 3 – 0 win for Sri Lanka.
This will provide Sri Lanka a 3 points in the Group H point and it will provide a narrow opportunity to be qualified for the AFC Asian Cup China 2023 if they can perform well in the balance matches.
Performing against Asian giant Korea Republic (who is ranked 39 in the FIFA Ranking) in front of the home crowd and facing Lebanon (who is in the FIFA rank of 93) wouldn’t be an easy task for the Golden Army.
Sources said that the Sri Lankan Football team will leave the country on 28th May 2021 to the Korea Republic to participate in the said tournament under the captaincy of Sujan Perera. Further, this will be the first-ever international match for the Head Coach of Amir Alargic.
