T20 World Cup 2024

During the Group D match of the men’s T20 World Cup 2024, Bangladesh emerged victorious in a thrilling encounter against Sri Lanka at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. Despite a scare, Bangladesh successfully chased down a target of 125, thanks to the composed innings of senior batter Mahamadullah. This win marked a positive start for Bangladesh in the tournament.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka’s campaign has taken a downturn as they suffered their second consecutive loss. After being dismissed for a mere 77 runs in their opening match against South Africa, Sri Lanka put up a better batting performance but fell short against Bangladesh. The heroes for Bangladesh in this match were leg-spinner Rishad Hossain, pacer Mustafizur Rahman, and young batsman Towhid Hridoy, who played a crucial role in their victory.

Sri Lanka’s batting lineup collapsed dramatically, losing their last 7 wickets for just 54 runs. This disappointing effort from the experienced Sri Lankan batters contributed to their defeat. On the other hand, Bangladesh displayed clinical bowling, with Mustafizur Rahman and Rishad Hossain leading the way. Mustafizur picked up 3 wickets while conceding only 17 runs, while Rishad Hossain took 3 wickets for 22 runs. Their impressive performances dismantled the Sri Lankan middle-order.

Overall, this win provided a much-needed confidence boost for Bangladesh, especially after their poor performances leading up to the T20 World Cup. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, finds themselves at the bottom of the Group D points table and in danger of an early exit from the tournament.
