A women’s Twenty20 cricket tournament is scheduled to be held at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Australia. The ICC said in a statement that was among the 20 games included in the next iteration to be played in Victoria. It is a symbol of the success of women’s cricket, which debuted at the Birmingham edition earlier this year.

“We are delighted to learn that women’s cricket will be part of the Commonwealth Games in Victoria,” said ICC General Manager – Cricket Wasim Khan. “It will be another important milestone for the sport after its massive success in recent years, including in Birmingham. The continued growth and upward trajectory of the women’s game and T20 cricket align well with our long-term ambitions, including being part of the Olympics.

Hosts Australia is the defending champions, having won the gold medal with a nine-run win over India at Edgbaston in August. New Zealand won the bronze medal by defeating England in the deciding match.

According to a report published by Daily Mirror, Silva’s anticipated resignation follows a request from the government, signaling possible political involvement in the administration of the sport.

The report further indicates that former Member of Parliament and State Minister Eran Wickramaratne is likely to be appointed as the Interim President of Sri Lanka Cricket, should Silva step down as expected.

Silva, who was first elected to the position in February 2019, has maintained his leadership through multiple election victories, overseeing Sri Lanka Cricket during a period marked by both challenges and transitions.
