The dates for the Sir John Tarbet Senior Athletics Championships are set…

The Sir John Tarbert Senior Athletics Championship conducted by the Sri Lanka School Athletic Association is scheduled to be held on the 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th of September. The Sri Lanka Athletics Association has informed that it has been decided to hold the championship at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo or at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium in Diyagama.

The Sri Lanka Athletics Association has also announced that the Sir John Tarbert Championship will be considered as the selection competition for the athletes representing Sri Lanka for the 4th Asian Under-18 Athletics Championship to be held in Kuwait from 13th to 16th October 2022.

இலங்கை பாடசாலை தடகள சம்மேளனத்தினால் நடாத்தப்படும் சேர் ஜோன் டார்பர்ட் சிரேஷ்ட தடகள சம்பியன்ஷிப் எதிர்வரும் செப்டெம்பர் மாதம் 13, 14, 15, 16 மற்றும் 17 ஆம் திகதிகளில் நடைபெறவுள்ளது. சம்பியன்ஷிப் போட்டியை கொழும்பு சுகததாச மைதானத்திலோ அல்லது தியகம மஹிந்த ராஜபக்ஷ மைதானத்திலோ நடத்த தீர்மானிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளதாக இலங்கை தடகள சங்கம் தெரிவித்துள்ளது.

2022 ஆம் ஆண்டு ஒக்டோபர் 13 ஆம் திகதி முதல் 16 ஆம் திகதி வரை குவைத்தில் நடைபெறவுள்ள 18 வயதுக்குட்பட்ட 4 ஆவது ஆசிய தடகள சாம்பியன்ஷிப் போட்டிக்கு இலங்கையைப் பிரதிநிதித்துவப்படுத்தும் விளையாட்டு வீரர்களுக்கான தெரிவுப் போட்டியாக சர் ஜோன் டார்பர்ட் சம்பியன்ஷிப் பரிசீலிக்கப்படும் என்றும் இலங்கை தடகள சங்கம் அறிவித்துள்ளது.

Sri Lankan javelin sensation Rumesh Pathirage produced the performance of a lifetime at the Rome Diamond League, launching the spear an astonishing 92.62 metres to become the second-best javelin thrower in Asian history and move to eighth place on the world all-time rankings.

The 23-year-old delivered the remarkable throw with his second attempt in the men’s javelin competition, sending shockwaves through the athletics world and cementing his place among the sport’s elite.

Pathirage’s record-breaking effort not only shattered his previous personal best but also established a new Sri Lankan national record and the world-leading mark for the 2026 season.

Tarushi Abisheka Wins Gold for Sri Lanka at Asian Under-20 Athletics Championships

Sri Lankan athlete Tarushi Abisheka secured a gold medal in the girls’ 1500m event at the Asian Under-20 Athletics Championships currently being held in Hong Kong on Thursday (May 28).

Abisheka delivered an impressive performance to finish first with a timing of 4 minutes and 31.41 seconds, bringing glory to Sri Lanka on the international stage.

Iran’s Maryam Baluoutaki claimed the silver medal, while South Korea’s Song Dawson finished in third place to secure the bronze.

The talented Sri Lankan middle-distance runner is also competing in the 800m event at the championship.

The Asian Under-20 Athletics Championships has attracted athletes from 40 countries, competing across 46 events.

Sri Lanka has fielded a 22-member contingent for the tournament, consisting of 15 male athletes and seven female athletes.
