Mumbai Indians replace Dilshan Madushanka with Kwena Maphaka

Kwena Maphaka, a promising young pace bowler, has been signed by the Mumbai Indians as a replacement for injured Dilshan Madushanka.

Madushanka, 23-year-old Sri Lankan pacer, suffered a hamstring injury during the recent ODI series in Bangladesh, where the visitors lost 1-2.

Madushanka was acquired by MI during the IPL Auction for Rs 4.6 crore, following his impressive performance in the ODI World Cup last year, where he took 21 wickets in nine matches.

On the other hand, Maphaka, a 17-year-old left-arm fast bowler from South Africa, was named the Player of the Tournament at the Under-19 World Cup held in his home country. He claimed a remarkable 21 wickets in the competition, setting a record for the most wickets by a pace bowler in a single edition of the U19 World Cup. He will be joining the five-time IPL champions at his base price of INR 50 lakh.

Maphaka, who attended the same school as his compatriot Kagiso Rabada – St. Stithians, made it to the U-19 team at the age of 15 and has already participated in two junior World Cups. He has also represented South Africa ‘A’ and Emerging Teams.
