Jasprit Bumrah will miss many major tournaments

Published

on

Bumrah, who was included in the squad named for the one-day tournament against Sri Lanka, was removed from the tournament yesterday (9) by the official announcement issued by the country’s cricket governing body. Sources also say that there is a high chance that he will miss the Test series to be held against Australia.

Jasprit Bumrah is likely to miss the Test series against Australia as he will need to rest for at least another month due to a muscle strain in his right leg. Bumrah suffered the injury while recovering from the injury ahead of the 2022 T20 World Cup and returning to the Indian ODI squad.

After the selection committee belatedly included Bumrah in the squad for the three ODIs against Sri Lanka, the Indian team management was optimistic about playing against Australia, but it was revealed that Bumrah had not travelled to Guwahati for the series with the rest of the squad.

With the ODI World Cup in India in October-November, it is clear that the management is also taking a very cautious approach to Bumrah’s fitness. Bumrah’s persistent injuries have caused him to miss many major tournaments, including the World Twenty20 and the Asia Cup.

Sri Lanka Cricket could be on the verge of a major leadership shake-up, with reports suggesting that President Shammi Silva is expected to resign from his post on Wednesday, potentially ending a seven-year tenure at the helm of the governing body.

According to a report published by Daily Mirror, Silva’s anticipated resignation follows a request from the government, signaling possible political involvement in the administration of the sport.

The report further indicates that former Member of Parliament and State Minister Eran Wickramaratne is likely to be appointed as the Interim President of Sri Lanka Cricket, should Silva step down as expected.

Silva, who was first elected to the position in February 2019, has maintained his leadership through multiple election victories, overseeing Sri Lanka Cricket during a period marked by both challenges and transitions.

While no official confirmation has yet been issued, the reported developments have already sparked widespread discussion within cricketing and political circles, raising questions about the future direction of the country’s cricket administration.
