Ganga and Kyle are set to represent Sri Lanka in swimming at the Paris 2024 Olympics
Ganga Senevirathne, the top female swimmer in the short distance backstroke events, and Kyle Abeysinghe, the leading male in short distance freestyle events, have secured their spots to represent Sri Lanka at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Ganga qualified with 688 FINA points in the 100M backstroke with a time of 1:04.08, while Kyle earned 776 FINA points with a time of 50.99 in the 100M freestyle. They are set to compete on 29 & 30 July in their respective specialties.
The reserves for the team are Hiruki de Silva, who achieved 654 FINA points in the 200M freestyle, and Akalanka Peiris, who earned 721 FINA points in the 100M backstroke. Ganga and Kyle’s success story serves as a great source of motivation for aspiring swimmers in Sri Lanka, thanks to the guidance of the national swimming head coach, Manoj Abeysinghe, and the support of the Killer Whales – KWA.
It is noteworthy that 4 out of 5 swimmers who have represented Sri Lanka in the past two Olympics and are set for Paris 2024 are from the Killer Whales team, with the exception of Aniqah Gaffoor.

Kingswood College, Kandy, came from behind to secure a gritty 27-18 victory over Zahira College, Colombo, in a Week 3 clash of the Dialog Schools Rugby League 2025 played at Zahira College Grounds.
Despite trailing 11-10 at halftime, Kingswood regrouped and powered through in the second half, scoring 3 tries, 3 conversions, and 2 penalties to take home the win. Zahira fought valiantly with 2 tries, 1 conversion, and 2 penalties, but couldn’t match Kingswood’s consistency in the closing stages.
This win marks an important step for Kingswood in their league journey as they eye a stronger position in the 2025 standings.

The Thomians dominated early, taking a 26-14 lead at halftime, and continued their momentum into the second half, finishing with 7 tries, 6 conversions, and a penalty to seal the win.
