Asia Rugby Reinstates Sri Lanka Rugby as Full Member

After the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs officially confirmed the cancellation of the gazette notification dated April 1st, 2022, Asia Rugby made the prudent decision to reinstate Sri Lanka Rugby as a full member of Asia Rugby.

During its meeting on April 9th, 2022, in Phuket, Thailand, the Asia Rugby Executive Committee (EXCO) temporarily suspended Sri Lanka Rugby’s membership. On May 1st, 2022 EXCO unanimously ratified the decision and imposed a full membership suspension.

Asia Rugby President Qais al Dhalai stated, “The EXCO’s decision to suspend Sri Lanka Rugby’s membership was made in accordance with Asia Rugby’s Articles and Regulations to maintain our principles of equality, transparency and accountability. I am pleased to hear about the withdrawal of the gazette notification, making it possible for Asia Rugby to lift the suspension.”

Qais further added, “We look forward to welcoming Sri Lanka teams back to Asia Rugby competitions.”

2022 අප්‍රේල් 01 වැනි දින නිකුත් කර තිබූ ගැසට් නිවේදනය අවලංගු කිරීම ක්‍රීඩා හා යෞවන කටයුතු අමාත්‍යාංශය විසින් නිල වශයෙන් තහවුරු කිරීමෙන් පසුව, ශ්‍රී ලංකා රග්බි ක්‍රීඩාව නැවත ආසියානු රග්බි ක්‍රීඩාවේ පූර්ණ සාමාජිකයෙකු ලෙස පත් කිරීමට ආසියා රග්බි දූරදර්ශී තීරණයක් ගත්තේය.

2022 අප්‍රේල් 9 වන දින තායිලන්තයේ ෆුකෙට් හි පැවති රැස්වීමේදී, ආසියානු රග්බි විධායක කමිටුව (EXCO) විසින් ශ්‍රී ලංකා රග්බි සාමාජිකත්වය තාවකාලිකව අත්හිටුවන ලදී. 2022 මැයි 1 වන දින EXCO ඒකමතිකව තීරණය අනුමත කර සම්පූර්ණ සාමාජිකත්වය අත්හිටුවීමක් පනවන ලදී.

ආසියා රග්බි සභාපති Qais al Dhalai ප්‍රකාශ කළේ, “අපගේ සමානාත්මතාවය, විනිවිදභාවය සහ වගවීම පිළිබඳ මූලධර්ම පවත්වා ගැනීම සඳහා Asia Rugby හි වගන්ති සහ රෙගුලාසිවලට අනුකූලව ශ්‍රී ලංකා රග්බි සාමාජිකත්වය අත්හිටුවීමට EXCO විසින් තීරණය කරන ලදී. ආසියා රග්බි තරග තහනම ඉවත් කිරීමට හැකි වන පරිදි ගැසට් නිවේදනය ඉල්ලා අස්කර ගැනීම ගැන අසන්නට ලැබීම ගැන මම සතුටු වෙනවා.”

Qais වැඩිදුරටත් පැවසුවේ, “අපි ශ්‍රී ලංකා කණ්ඩායම් නැවත ආසියා රග්බි තරගවලට පිළිගැනීමට බලාපොරොත්තු වෙනවා.”

Qais மேலும் கூறினார், “ஆசியா ரக்பி போட்டிகளுக்கு மீண்டும் இலங்கை அணிகளை வரவேற்பதற்கு நாங்கள் எதிர்நோக்குகிறோம்.”

Sri Lankan fast bowler Chamindu Wickramasinghe has come under the spotlight after his bowling action was officially reported as suspicious during a recent domestic encounter.

The incident occurred in a match of the National Super League held from April 6 to 9, where the Dambulla side faced Colombo. Wickramasinghe, representing Dambulla, drew attention from match officials, prompting concerns over the legality of his action.

The on-field umpires, Deepal Gunawardena and Ravindra Wimalasiri, made the report in accordance with standard procedures. Match referee Manoj Mendis also oversaw the process, ensuring that all regulations were followed.

Sri Lanka Under-19 Women extended their impressive run in the Tri-Series with a composed four-wicket victory over Australia Women Under-19 cricket team at Bill Pippen Oval Today.

After being put in to bat, Australia U-19 struggled to build momentum against a disciplined Sri Lankan bowling attack. Ayla Johnson top-scored with 18 off 29 balls, while Alyssa Dermody added a quick 13. However, regular wickets halted their progress as they finished on a modest 91 for 9 in 20 overs. Limansa Thilakarathne led the bowling effort with an impressive 3 for 26, well supported by Chamudi Praboda, who claimed 2 for 21.

In response, Sri Lanka Women Under-19 cricket team chased down the target with 92 for 6 in 19.3 overs. Despite a few setbacks, Pramudi Methsara anchored the innings with an unbeaten 21 off 17 balls, while Danodya Sewmini contributed a steady 14.
