An interim committee for the future activities of the Football Federation of Sri Lanka!!!

Published

on

Mr Jaswar Umar was elected as the President of the Football Federation of Sri Lanka for a period of one year from June 31, 2021. His tenure was supposed to end on May 31 this year, but due to the country’s economic problems, the Ministry has given time to the federation to hold the election on or before August 31. Know the election is less than 2 weeks away but the current administration did not organize anything to hold the election.

When asking Mr Jaswar Umar in this regard, he expressed the following opinion.
“First of all, our current constitution must be amended. The current constitution is more than 30 years old,” said Mr Umar.

Dr Manil Fernando, President of the Kalutara Football League, who is going to appear for the election of the Football Federation this year, expressed such an opinion.

“Two letters were sent from the World Football Confederation (FIFA), and the letter states that their term of office is over and that the first official election should be held on August 31.”

In this regard, the Director General of Sports stated in an inquiry that although the current President was informed to organize the arrangements to hold the official election on August 31, he has not done anything for that to date. Therefore, after August 31, the powers of the current President and other officials will be lost, so an administrative committee will be appointed to continue the activities of the Federation, he added.

LSG Rope in George Linde After Hasaranga Injury Blow

Published

By

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have signed South African allrounder George Linde as a replacement for injured Sri Lanka spinner Wanindu Hasaranga in IPL 2026.

Hasaranga, bought for INR 2 crore, was ruled out after suffering a hamstring injury during Sri Lanka’s T20 World Cup opener in February and never joined the LSG squad. His absence left LSG short of spin options early in the season.

Linde joins the franchise at his base price of INR 1 crore. The 33-year-old left-arm spinner is set for his first IPL stint, but arrives with extensive global T20 experience, having featured in leagues such as SA20, The Hundred, PSL and Major League Cricket over the past year.

Across 250 T20 matches, Linde has taken 218 wickets at an economy of 7.42 and scored 2,746 runs at a strike rate of 136.68, adding depth as a bowling allrounder.

LSG, who began IPL 2026 with a loss to Delhi Capitals, have since bounced back with two narrow wins to climb to fifth place on the points table. The addition of Linde is expected to further strengthen their balance ahead of a key phase in the tournament.

LSG next face Gujarat Titans on Sunday in Lucknow, where Linde could be in line for his debut.
