A big defeat for the Sri Lankan Women’s Cricket team by ten wickets!!!

The South African Women’s cricket team managed to win by ten wickets in the match held on 04th August between Sri Lanka and South Africa in Group B of the Women’s T20 tournament of the Commonwealth Games.

South African captain Sune Luus, who won the toss, decided to bowl first and the bowlers managed to fulfil their responsibility well. Apart from Chamari Athapaththu, no other Sri Lankan batsman got a chance to cross the 10-run mark. In bowling, Nadine de Klerk took three wickets and Shabnim Ismail took two wickets. Accordingly, the Sri Lanka women’s cricket team was able to score only 46 runs in 17.1 overs after the struggle.

Chasing an easy target of 46 runs, the South African opening batsmen managed to pass the winning runs without losing any wicket in 6.1 overs.

Accordingly, India, Australia, England and New Zealand women’s cricket teams are going to compete in the semifinals of the Commonwealth Games.

Chamari Athapaththu හැර වෙනත් කිසිදු ශ්‍රී ලංකා පිතිකාරිණියෙකුට ලකුණු 10 සීමාව පසුකිරීමට අවස්ථාවක් හිමි නොවීය. පන්දු යැවීමේදී Nadine de Klerk කඩුළු තුනක් ද Shabnim Ismail කඩුළු දෙකක් දවා ගනිමින් විශිෂ්ඨ පන්දු යැවීමක නිරන විය. ඒ අනුව ශ්‍රී ලංකා කාන්තා ක්‍රිකට් කණ්ඩායමට පන්දුවාර 17.1 කදී සියල්ලන් දැවී රැස්කිරීමට හැකිවූයේ ලකුණු 46ක් පමණි.

ලකුණු 46ක පහසු ඉලක්කයක් හඹා යාමට පිටියට පිවිසි දකුණු අප්‍රිකානු ආරම්භ පිතිකාරණියන් පන්දුවාර 6.1කදී කිසිදු කඩුල්ලක් නොදැවී ජයග්‍රාහී ඉලක්කය පසුකර යාමට සමත් විය.

நாணயச்சுழற்சியில் வெற்றி பெற்ற தென்னாபிரிக்க அணித்தலைவி சுனே லூஸ் முதலில் பந்துவீச தீர்மானித்ததோடு, பந்துவீச்சாளர்கள் தமது பொறுப்பை சிறப்பாக நிறைவேற்றினர். சாமரி அதபத்துவைத் தவிர வேறு எந்த இலங்கை பேட்ஸ்மேனும் 10 ரன்களைக் கடக்க வாய்ப்பில்லை. பந்துவீச்சில் நடின் டி கிளர்க் மூன்று விக்கெட்டுக்களையும், ஷப்னிம் இஸ்மாயில் இரண்டு விக்கெட்டுக்களையும் கைப்பற்றினர். அதன்படி, இலங்கை மகளிர் கிரிக்கெட் அணியால் 17.1 ஓவர்களில் 46 ரன்கள் மட்டுமே எடுக்க முடிந்தது.

As the 2024/25 Premier League season enters its final stretch, the title race is heating up with Liverpool maintaining their dominant position at the top of the table. With only four games remaining, the Reds sit comfortably on 82 points after 34 games, having recorded 25 wins, 7 draws, and just 2 losses.

Their closest rivals, Arsenal, trail by 12 points with 70 from 35 matches. Meanwhile, defending champions Manchester City are third with 64 points, followed closely by Newcastle United on 62.

In a competitive battle for European spots, Chelsea, Nottingham Forest, and Aston Villa are all tied on 60 points, setting the stage for a thrilling finish. At the other end of the table, Southampton, Leicester City, and Ipswich Town are in serious danger of relegation.

Top Schools Gear Up for Quarter-Finals of U19 Knockout Rugby President’s Trophy

The excitement is building as Sri Lanka’s top rugby-playing schools prepare to battle it out in the quarter-finals of the U19 Schools Knockout Rugby Tournament – President’s Trophy 2025. After a thrilling set of preliminary matches, eight schools have earned their spots in the last eight, with the quarter-finals set to kick off this weekend.

St. Peter’s College, despite a convincing 51-08 win over Thurstan College, has withdrawn from the tournament, allowing Zahira to progress to the semi-finals by default.

In other notable results, Zahira College edged out Vidyaratha College 16-12 in a tightly contested game, but it was Vidyaratha who advanced to the quarters. Trinity College delivered a commanding 62-05 win over St. Anthony’s College, securing their spot, while S. Thomas’ College triumphed over Science College with a 59-35 victory.

DS Senanayake College shocked Dharmaraja College with a 48-09 scoreline, and Royal College held off a strong challenge from Kingswood College to win 28-24. Wesley College overcame St. Joseph’s College 36-23, and Isipathana College dominated Sri Sumangala College with a resounding 61-00 win.

Sri Lanka Shows Grit at Asian Hockey Federation Cup 2025

The Sri Lanka national hockey teams delivered determined performances at the Asian Hockey Federation Cup 2025, held in Jakarta, Indonesia under the auspices of the Asian Hockey Federation. While the men’s team finished in 7th place, the women’s team showed notable improvement by securing 5th place, one step ahead of their 2016 finish.

Men’s Team Recap – A Tough Battle

The Sri Lankan men’s team, placed in Group ‘B’ during the preliminary round, managed only one win – a 2-1 victory against host Indonesia. They held Thailand to a 1-1 draw but suffered defeats against Bangladesh (5-0) and Kazakhstan (3-2), finishing 4th in the group.

In the classification round for 5th–8th place, Sri Lanka lost a tight match against Hong Kong (5-4). However, they bounced back in the playoff for 7th place, defeating Thailand 6-4 in an entertaining and high-scoring encounter. Despite their efforts, Sri Lanka could not replicate the success of the previous edition, where they secured a bronze medal.

Women’s Team Recap – A Step Forward

The women’s tournament followed a league format with six teams. Sri Lanka finished with two draws – 2-2 against Indonesia and 2-2 against Uzbekistan – while enduring three losses to Chinese Taipei (5-1), Singapore (5-2), and Hong Kong (5-0).

In the 5th place playoff, Sri Lanka faced Uzbekistan once again. With the game ending 3-3 in regulation time, the outcome was decided via an 8-second penalty shootout, where Sri Lanka emerged victorious 3-1. This result marks an improvement from their 6th-place finish in 2016.

A standout performer in the women’s team was forward Nipuni Ishara Fernando, who was recognized as a promising young talent in the tournament. Her attacking prowess and energy on the field highlighted Sri Lanka’s potential for future regional success.
