8th LPL Match | Jaffna Stallions vs Kandy Tuskers

Published

on

Stallions won the toss and elected bat first but they haven’t got any chances to be explosive in the power play and scored only 26 runs for 2 wickets because of the Tuskers Munaf Patel’s, Dilruwan Perera’s and Asela Gunaratne’s balling plan and execution.

Pressure made ballers made openers to think ways to get the score board ticking and unfortunately dangerous Avishka Fernando got run out for 3 runs in 5 balls and Minod Banuka to throw his wicket for 15 runs in 21 balls.

End of 10th (half way through) over Stallions only able to score 50 runs for 4 wickets. Captain Thisara came to pitch for 6th wicket and showed his form which he carried out form the previous match. Further from nowhere Dhanjaya De Silva start to kickoff his hitting by scoring 22 runs in 16th over against Dilruwan Perera’s.

Both passed their half centuries and put up a 100+ partnership

Naveen able remove the Stallion’ captain dangerous Thisara for 68 in 28 balls (5 fours and 5 sixes) and in the next ball Naveen took the wicket of well settled D Silva for 61 runs in 38 balls (5 fours and 3 sixes) helped Tusker’s put breaks on the Stallion’s hard hitting. Otherwise Stallion will looks like to score over 200 plus runs.

Unfortunately, other than Dhananjaya and Thisara no one stand up in the batting but at the end of the innings Jaffna Stallions scored a wonderful 185 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs.

In the chase, Tusker’s did not have expected start that explosive batsman Gurbars sent back to pavilion in the first over and once again Kusal Janith got out very cheaply for 4 runs in 4 balls.

Once the Tylor in the middle it is like Tusker will cross the required score easily but once he got out its looks very difficult for the Tusker’s and they never batted well to give a fight to the Stallion’s

At last Tuskers only scored 131 and lost all the wickets and the match by 54 runs. With that Jaffna Stallions are unbeaten in the tournament and lead the points table with 6 points.

Thisara Perera became the Man of the Match for his hard hitting 68 and two wickets for 9 runs

Shakib, who was in Canada playing T20 cricket when Sheikh Hasina’s government was overthrown, has not returned to Bangladesh since. While he has not been charged for alleged ties to a violent crackdown, his links to the former regime make him a target of public anger.

Having played 71 Tests, 247 ODIs, and 129 T20Is, with 712 wickets to his name, Shakib remains a giant in cricket. However, his future—both on and off the field—hangs in the balance.

The winner will join Hong Kong, South Korea, and the UAE in the ARC Top 4, making this a must-win encounter for Sri Lanka.

Squad Selection & Training Plans

The selected players will undergo medical examinations on April 9 at SLR headquarters, with any existing injuries needing to be disclosed. After medical assessments, the squad will enter an intensive training camp in Colombo, taking a short break from April 13-15 for the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.

Sri Lanka’s final 30-player squad will be announced after medical evaluations to ensure a fully fit and competitive team. While Sri Lanka is just beginning preparations, Malaysia has already kicked off their training camp, potentially giving them an edge.
