Sri Lanka women’s cricket team’s medal dream faded away…

The New Zealand women’s cricket team managed to win by 45 runs in the match held yesterday between Sri Lanka and New Zealand in Group B of the Women’s T20 tournament held under the Commonwealth Games.

Batting first, the New Zealand women’s cricket team managed to score 147 runs by losing 7 wickets at the end of the twenty overs. Giving a successful start in batting, New Zealand captain Sophie Devine and Suzie Bates stood out as they built a partnership of 51 runs in 36 balls for the first wicket.

The New Zealand bowlers managed to send both the opening batsmen of the Sri Lankan women’s team back to the stadium just for fourteen runs. At the end of the scheduled 20 overs, the Sri Lankan batsmen managed to score only 102 runs. Nilakshi de Silva scored 36 runs but it was not enough for victory. Hayley Jensen, who bowled excellently, managed to take 3 wickets for 5 runs in the 4 overs with one maiden over. Accordingly, the New Zealand women’s team won the match easily by 45 runs.

The Sri Lanka women’s cricket team had to be disqualified from the tournament after losing both the matches they participated in in the preliminary round. However, the final match Sri Lanka will participate in will be held tomorrow against the South African women’s team.

England and New Zealand women’s teams managed to secure semi-final spots from Group B with one game remaining each.

Bangladesh to Tour Sri Lanka for Full-Fledged Series in June-July 2025

Sri Lanka Cricket has confirmed that the Bangladesh National Men’s Team will tour the island from June 13 to July 16, 2025, for a multi-format bilateral series featuring 2 Tests, 3 ODIs, and 3 T20Is.

The tour kicks off with the Test series, which begins on June 17 at Galle International Stadium, followed by the second Test from June 25 to 29 at the SSC in Colombo. This red-ball series will offer crucial preparation and exposure for both sides ahead of the upcoming ICC events.

Sri Lanka holds a dominant record in Test encounters, having won 20 out of 26 matches against Bangladesh. Bangladesh has managed just one win, with five Tests ending in draws. Their last Test series in April 2024 saw Sri Lanka claim a clean sweep in Bangladesh, 2-0.

The limited-overs leg begins with ODIs on July 2 and 5 at R. Premadasa Stadium, before the third match takes place on July 8 at Pallekele — all day-night games starting at 2:30 PM.

The action continues with the T20I series, starting July 10 in Pallekele, followed by matches in Dambulla (July 13) and a final showdown at R. Premadasa Stadium on July 16.
