Chamari Athapaththu New no.1 ODI batter

Chamari Athapaththu’s outstanding performance in leading Sri Lanka to a successful run-chase in the women’s ODIs has propelled her to the top spot in the ICC Women’s ODI Batting Rankings following the latest update.

Athapaththu’s remarkable innings during the third ODI against South Africa helped Sri Lanka draw the series level.

Scoring an impressive 195* in pursuit of a target of 302, Athapaththu’s knock is now the third-highest individual score in women’s ODIs. Furthermore, this innings ranks as the second-highest score in a successful run chase in ODI cricket history, across both men’s and women’s matches, just behind Glenn Maxwell’s 201* against Afghanistan in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.

As a result of this performance, Athapaththu has achieved her highest-ever rating of 773 in the women’s batting rankings. Additionally, she has climbed two places in the all-rounder rankings, securing the ninth position. On the other hand, Laura Wolvaardt’s impressive back-to-back centuries against Sri Lanka have elevated her to the third spot in the batting rankings.

Hayley Matthews’ notable contributions with scores of 140* and 44 against Pakistan have propelled her up by seven places in the batting rankings, where she now shares the eleventh position. Moreover, Matthews has also climbed three spots in the women’s ODI all-rounder rankings, securing the second position behind Marizanne Kapp.

Shemaine Campbelle and Chinelle Henry have also seen improvements in their rankings, with Campbelle moving up by 17 places to 54th and Henry rising by 11 places to 65th in the batting rankings.
