Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Saturday (6) confirmed that star spinner Wanindu Hasaranga will not be available for the IPL 2024 due to an ankle injury.
Sunrisers Hyderabad’s bowling attack will be affected by this setback.
The Sri Lankan T20I captain requires rest and rehabilitation for his left ankle injury, as stated by Sri Lanka Cricket to the BCCI.
Consequently, the 26-year-old will be unable to participate in the tournament. Hasaranga, who was released by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2023 auction, was acquired by SRH for his base price of ₹1.5 crore.
Following consultation with a specialist in Dubai, he has been advised to take precautionary rest. Hasaranga’s manager, Shyam, was quotes by Cricbuzz that Sri Lanka Cricket has notified the BCCI about his unavailability.
“He went to Dubai for medical advice and stayed there for three days. Given the current situation, the expert’s advice is that he should rest rather than participate in the IPL this season”, Shyam was quoted as saying.
Shyam had previously indicated Hasaranga would join the SRH camp, but that’s no longer possible. Hasaranga’s focus now shifts to the T20 World Cup in June.
