Lanka Cavaliers, one of the pioneer Cricket Clubs in Sri Lanka have organised to conduct its 8th annual six-a-side Cricket tournament on the 26th of August 2023, to be played at the Land Development Corporation ground, Kirimandela Mawatha, Colombo- 05, where a press conference was held on the 16th of August at the MCA Auditorium, to brief the media and the participating teams of this prestigious tournament.
The Club was formed in January 1997 to have friendship among the Cricketers and ex stalwarts, who has done yeoman service for Cricket in Sri Lanka. The present committee members are much thankful to the late, Bandula Warnapura who was a live wire behind Lanka Cavaliers from the commencement of this Club.
09 teams will be participating in this year’s tournament and this will be conducted according to the new rules and regulations of the International Cricket Council. 10 players can be registered, of which 8 players have to be over 50 plus and 2 players over 55 plus. The playing form at this six-a-side tournament is 5 players have to be over 50 plus and 1 player of over 55 plus.
The present committee members are planning to have this year’s tournament, in a kind of Carnival atmosphere, where the Cricket-loving fans of Sri Lanka can come and meet their old colleagues and have an enjoyable evening.
Vintage CC, Umpires Committee and Royal Masters are drawn into group ” A “, MCA, St. Thomas Kotte and Police Sports Club are drawn into group ” B “, SL Army, Thomian Masters and Colombo Masters are drawn into group ” C “. The Chief Guest at this 8th annual Cricket tournament will be Wendell Labrooy and the Guest of Honor for this prestigious tournament, will be the famous veteran Cricketer Umpire, Asoka De Silva.
