Major League Limited Over Tournament (SSC Vs Bloomfield)
SSC to conduct an inquiry immediately
Dashing batter Kusal Mendis is likely to face a 1 or 2 ban from domestic games after the 28-year-old slammed his bat on the door of the dressing room following his dismissal against Bloomfield in a group ‘B’ match in the ongoing SLC Major League limited over tournament.
Addressing about the issue a top official from SSC was quoted by a local newspaper on Friday as saying;
“We are having a discussion to see what exactly has happened. If he (Mendis) is proved guilty, he will be punished. If somebody has done something wrong, whether he is a national player or a club player, he will have to face the circumstances. Since this is a domestic game, I don’t know whether SLC will intervene, but SSC will definitely take a call, if necessary,”.
It is learnt Mendis was unhappy with the pitch they were given where the ball had much turn and the pitch was underrated.
The incident had occurred after the right hander were caught at the slips for a duck in his second ball he faced. Following his dismissal he was furious, and while walking to the pavilion he had smashed his bat on the door (which was damaged).
Mendis has been under scanner for his displinary issues earlier as well.
It is also reported, the Bloomfield has requested SSC to repair the damages and has also wrote to Sri Lanka Cricket about the incident.
It is reliably learned if Mendis proved guilty he could face a domestic ban for 1 or 2 matches.
Kusal Mendis has had a bad patch in the ongoing tournament, where he has scores of 19, 25, 32, 13, 15 and 00.
