ICC Imposes One-Year Ban on Sri Lankan Cricketer Praveen Jayawickrama

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has imposed a one-year ban on Sri Lankan cricketer Praveen Jayawickrama, with six months of the suspension being deferred, following his admission of violating the ICC Anti-Corruption Code.

Jayawickrama acknowledged his infringement of the following provision within the Code:

Article 2.4.7 – Interfering with or hindering any investigation conducted by the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU), which includes the concealment, alteration, or destruction of any documents or information pertinent to that investigation, as well as any evidence or leads that could uncover evidence of corrupt activities under the Anti-Corruption Code.

Consequently, Jayawickrama has accepted a sanction that entails a one-year period of ineligibility, with the final six months being suspended.

The allegations pertain to both international cricket and the Lanka Premier League. The ICC, in collaboration with Sri Lanka Cricket, has acted in accordance with Articles 1.7.4.1 and 1.8.1 of the Code.
