Ganga Senevirathne, the top female swimmer in the short distance backstroke events, and Kyle Abeysinghe, the leading male in short distance freestyle events, have secured their spots to represent Sri Lanka at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Ganga qualified with 688 FINA points in the 100M backstroke with a time of 1:04.08, while Kyle earned 776 FINA points with a time of 50.99 in the 100M freestyle. They are set to compete on 29 & 30 July in their respective specialties.
The reserves for the team are Hiruki de Silva, who achieved 654 FINA points in the 200M freestyle, and Akalanka Peiris, who earned 721 FINA points in the 100M backstroke. Ganga and Kyle’s success story serves as a great source of motivation for aspiring swimmers in Sri Lanka, thanks to the guidance of the national swimming head coach, Manoj Abeysinghe, and the support of the Killer Whales – KWA.
It is noteworthy that 4 out of 5 swimmers who have represented Sri Lanka in the past two Olympics and are set for Paris 2024 are from the Killer Whales team, with the exception of Aniqah Gaffoor.
