Alighar National School from Eravur in the district of Batticalao, where the football fans of Sri-Lanka would have never been heard about this School, created history by entering to the final for the first time and beat the more fancied Zahira College Colombo, who were dominating the football game for many years on penalties ( 5/4 ) to emerge as Champions of ” The Ball Blaster ” under 20 all Island Schools football tourney 2023, sponsored by srilankankansportstv, organised and conducted by Sri-Lanka Schools Football Association, under the guidance of the Ministry of Education, played at the Sugathadasa Stadium on Monday.
The match which was scheduled to play on Sunday got off on time and with the heavy rains after 10 minutes of play, the officials decided to call off and the game to be replayed on Monday.
Alighar National School lads showcasing their talents at this final of ” The Ball Blaster ” Championship 2023, who were beaten by the Zahira College Colombo lads in the league encounter by a solitary goal to nil, came back strongly to hold the Zahira College Colombo lads to a scoreless draw and a hope on penalties, which they did it smartly by scoring all the five penalties given to them, where the Zahira College striker missing the second penalty.
